Grade I

The gatehouse is all that survives of the moated manor that was Rye House. Home to Katherine Parr, Henry VIII’s sixth wife, for some twelve years when she was a child, the house later gained infamy as the setting for the Rye House Plot, a failed plan to assassinate Charles II.

The gatehouse is open to the public a few days per year; and can be viewed from the outside, in its country setting, all year round.
